Vikram and Tess

Question: Why is Tess the one who knows Vikram is alive?

VikramTess

In the last minute of the mid-season finale, Tess calls Vikram and tells him it’s time for him to come home. Which raises the question, why was Tess and not Karen the one who knew he had faked his death?

It seems unlikely that they would both know. At least unlikely that both are in on the secret together, as they have only recently renewed their friendship and seem to have had no history together that past five years and have openly discussed Vikram’s death. Also it seems unlikely Karen, who is completely devoting herself to her son and would mention several times how hard Vikram’s death has been on him and not share with him the truth.

So if Karen doesn’t know, why does Tess?

There is of course that possibility that Tess and Vikram are having, or have had, an affair. One popular theory is that Jo is Vikram’s daughter, and if that was connected to the reasons he faked his death and (possibly) Regina’s murder, then it might be natural that he and Tess would be working together to keep it a secret.

But it feels like there would have to be more than that to Vikram’s decision to go missing. Tess on the phone to him said ‘it’s time to come home’, which heavily implies they both knew at some point he would return. Besides, the presence of the PI proves there’s much more going on than the true parentage of one teenage girl. She may still be Vikram’s daughter, but there is much more going on below the surface.

Could Tess be involved in Marna Inc. and whatever is happening in Connecticut? Karen also appears to have been, at least somewhat, aware of what her husband was doing in Connecticut, but she has not confided at all in Tess on the subject, which would have seemed natural after Kyle showed her the letter sent to Regina, if she knew Tess had been involved.

So it seems likely that whatever Tess’ involvement with Vikram and/or Marna is, Karen doesn’t know about it.

It’s possible Vikram was forced to confide in Tess. Maybe he needed help to fake his death. Karen has said they were having problems in their marriage, maybe it was because of that Vikram turned to Tess, with whom he had years of history. Or maybe he didn’t trust Karen for another reason? Maybe Tess doesn’t trust her either, and her recent attempts at friendship have been a ploy in order to sound her out for information?

The Moth Balls

Question: Who, if anyone, poisoned Cole?

mothballs

With all the mysteries going around Green Grove, who poisoned Cole didn’t seem very important. But after this week’s episode, it was certainly brought into the forefront and created some interesting questions.

We don’t have a whole lot of information. Cole thought he had food poisoning. Moth balls were found in the locker room, which can be used to make someone sick. Only Danny and Cole were in the locker room at that time, or at least so they thought. What Cole ate or drank, that the moth balls could have been put in, we don’t know but given the fact even he is suspicious of Danny now, he must have eaten something.

There are a couple of possibilities of what might have happened.

Obviously, Danny could be a sociopath and have done the deed himself. But you’d have to wonder why he would then throw away a pack of moth balls in locker room? No one would have been suspicious if those hadn’t been found. Well alright, some people might have been. When Cole’s illness was first announced the rest of the soccer team did give Danny a few dirty looks, but Danny never would have been asked to leave the team, the couch never would have gone to the school board and Danny wouldn’t have been expelled. It would have been easy for Danny to just put the moth balls back in his backpack, take them home and dispose of them there. It wouldn’t have raised any questions.

A second possibility is that Regina’s killer poisoned Cole in an attempt to make Danny look guilty, trying to turn people further against him and let him take the fall for Regina’s murder. After all, if Danny is to be believed (which we can’t say for a fact he is) someone already placed the necklace in his locker, possibility in an attempt to frame him. However who, other than the team, knew that Cole had taken Danny’s position on the team? Word could have gotten out but between the decision and poisoning there was less then twenty-four hours. Word would have had to have gotten out fast.

I’d certainly like to know, what caused that one couch to turn Danny in? Did someone say something to him? Was he influenced in any way?

There is a third possibility. A theory that was suggested here by Zack, that Cole truly did have food poisoning and that when Archie heard he decided to plant the moth balls to frame Danny. Honestly this makes a lot of sense to me. First off the moth balls were only found after the couch told the team that Cole was sick and Archie proceeded to make a pointed remark to Danny about being alone with Cole that morning. Secondly he would have motive to really hate Danny after Danny turned the rest of the team against him by forcing him to admit he’d met with a couch from another team. On top of the way he acted throughout the hearing this definitely seems plausible.

Fan Theory: My theory is that Vikram killed Tara and had his son take the fall for it because he is a minor. Danny had no reason to kill his aunt when he was just a child.

And as for Regina, she was killed by Tess. Vikram had a thing with Tess and Regina knew about it. Regina blackmailed Vikram and Tess, hence the messages with the money. Tess somehow found out that Regina was going to tell Danny everything. So, Tess killed Regina to keep it a secret. Tess saw a party with many people as a good night to kill, so she did.

Fan Theory: I think that Karen’s confession was true and that she really did kill regina and that karen is the true pychopath of the series by manipulating danny into thinking that Tara had to die by fueling Danny’s motivation to kill her by exploiting the bad blood between Danny’s father and Tara and that she found out about vekrom and regina and had him killed and somehow regina found out and Karen was paying her off but when regina texted danny Karen went into his room sometime during the night and fearing being exposed killed her explaining her actions through the series like when kyle first asked her about the necklace after planting it on danny she faked him out to completely make him focus on danny and make the town torture him more while she plays the part of the weeping widow and troubled mother all the while she laughs at all the chaos she has masterminded while she has her perfect scape goat in her son danny and thats danny’s phsyco actions and lies are a product of his time in juvie because as the series has gone on while he hasn’t completely opened up he shows way more emotion than he did in the first few episoes the only reason Karen confessed was because it would just make her look like a protective mother all the while causing more chaos in the town.

Fan Theory: I think (although its mostly guessing) that Rico killed Regina and framed Danny to get him back to prison permanently. He may have anticipated Joe’s feeling for Danny (and with his obvious like for her) decided to get rid of the competition.

Facts: He has access to Danny’s locker
He doesn’t like Danny and is convinced Danny killed Regina
He has a motive to kill (getting rid of Danny)
The show has not payed Rico much attention but has focused on his like for Joe and dislike for Danny… Could Rico be the sociopath?

Aunt Tara’s Power

Question: How could Tara destroy Danny’s family?

tara

In this week’s episode Danny told Jo that his Aunt Tara was going to destroy his family and ruin his life. After Jo was a bit skeptical, he assured her that Tara did of the power to do so.

Which raises the question of what possibly could Aunt Tara do that could destroy the family more than having the only son put away for murdering someone. Danny being convicted for murder clearly did affect the family badly. Karen is barely keeping it together, she’s stuck in a town where she’s a pariah, she’s having money troubles, Vikram had a drinking problem and they lost Tess and Kyle who seem to have once been their closest friends. Danny’s actions seriously dented the Desai family, honestly I wouldn’t say it’d be going too far to say that in a sense it destroyed it. Even if Danny were only taking the fall for someone else, say Karen or Vikram, Danny taking the blame makes the situation almost worse for the family. And killing Tara (or taking the blame for it) certainly, as he realized when talking to Lacey in the graveyard, ruined Danny’s life.

And yet in ‘Three for the Road’ Danny said to Jo ‘I don’t know if I regret what I did’. Whether Danny is talking about killing his aunt or covering for someone else, whatever Tara was going to do to the Desai family, seems would have had a worse effect then what Danny did. Which is a pretty darn powerful statement. Danny’s actions had a terrible result on the family. Yet he’s implied that whatever Tara was going to do, would have been far worse.

So what was it?

Danny assures Jo that Tara did have the power to destroy his family. Which certainly leads one to first think the ‘power’ Tara had was knowledge about something. After all there’s that old expression ‘knowledge is power’. Tara could have been threatening to expose something.

In a previous post I speculated, in a rather darkish theory, that Danny could have been the child of Vikram and Tara. Tara revealing this would certainly have destroyed the family and possibly ruined Danny’s life more than the murder. This would also explain Tara and Vikram hating each other for something that happened in their childhood. After all, if they had first become ‘attracted’ to each other back then, they could easily have grown up to hate each other for that attraction. However this seems less likely now as we know that Vikram and Karen have lived in the area since at least high school so the possibility that Karen isn’t Danny’s real mother is much less likely.

Tara threatening to expose any form of affair between Vikram and someone else (or Karen and someone else) while destroying the family, would still have less catastrophic implications then Danny murdering his aunt, something an eleven year old could theoretically not realize but a sixteen year old, with five years to think about it, probably would and wouldn’t now be saying things like ‘I don’t know if I regret what I did’.

So that makes me go back to the ‘power’ Tara had, and also something else Danny said to Jo in the same conversation. He said that he wanted to keep her safe. Which is very different from his previous statement that he wanted to protect her. Protecting Jo from the truth could easily mean protecting her from being hurt emotionally. Keeping her safe, implies a risk of physical harm. Which either implies to me that whatever power Tara had, whatever she could do to the Desai family, she also could do to the Masterson family. Or someone else killed Tara, Danny took the fall and he believes if Jo knew who and why she would be in real danger of being killed as well. Which might explain the motive behind Regina’s murder.

Fan Theory: I’ve been thinking a lot about this show (mostly because of how good it is) and I’ve arranged a couple of theories. First, I’ve been thinking about how Karen and Vikram had an affair before, so it might have continued after high school. Possibly making Danny’s father Jo’s too. If that is true, it would explain why Danny says he was trying to protect Jo all this time. Tara some how found out and Danny had to kill her to save his family and Jo’s too. Then Regina found out about it and Vikram, still being alive of course, got money so she wouldn’t tell any one about it. But for some reason Regina decided to tell Danny about it, possibly for some more money, and Vikram, or someone else who needed to keep that secret, killed Regina out of anger. I highly doubt this is what actually happened, but it’s how I made sense of what’s happening in the show.
